Dora (Montenegro) is a bitter, aging woman who makes a living writing letters for the illiterate at a stand located in Rio de Janeiro's central railway station. One of her customers sends letters to her 9-year-old son Josue's (de Oliveira) father, who lives in northern Brazil and who has never seen the boy. When Josue's mother is killed in an accident, Dora reluctantly takes the homeless boy in and reluctantly decides they must locate his father. Their road trip turns out to have some unexpected consequences. Portuguese with subtitles.
