Weird Science Movie Review
One of the stranger and more amusing of John Hughes’ ‘80s teen comedies. Anthony Michael Hall and his fellow nerd Ilan Mitchell-Smith use a very special kind of software to create the ideal woman, in the person of Kelly Le Brock. The leering implications of these two junior Frankensteins “making a woman” are thankfully glossed over; Le Brock is a wise and mature being who proves to be a dweeb's best friend. She turns Hall's bullying older brother into a toadlike creature and basically solves all their problems in a zany kind of way. Oingo Boingo did the amusing theme song. Rather puzzlingly, the film inspired a cable series that didn't get off the ground until the ‘90s.
