The Vindicator Movie Review

This Canadian pic seems like a prototype for the Robocop series, right down to an elaborate cyborg costume designed by Stan Winston's studio. Researcher's colleagues arrange for him to roast in a lab explosion (apparently for the offense of being the only scientist around who isn't a junkie, pervert, sadist, or corporate swine), then encase his mangled body in an exoskeleton intended for Mars astronauts, a suit with built-in life support, super-strength and crush-kill-destroy automated defense mode. ‘Frankenstein’ (as the credits list him) isn't happy about the lifestyle change and escapes, hunted by female mercenary Pam Grier. Plot is violent and comic-bookish, but good for its breed, with slam-bang action and satisfying f/x. AKA: Frankenstein ‘88.

1985 (R) 92m/C CA Terri Austin, Richard Cox, David Mcllwraith, Pam Grier; D: Jean-Claude Lord. VHS, Beta FOX
