Planet of Blood Movie Review

Space opera about an female alien vampire (Florence Marly) discovered in a derelict spaceship on Mars by a rescue team. If you've ever seen the Soviet film Niebo Zowiet, don't be surprised if some scenes look familiar; the script was written around f/x segments cut from that film. Surprisingly effective nonetheless; director Curtis Harrington wrings suspense within the limited confines of the low-budget sets, and Marly (Sealed Verdict) makes for a sexy/creepy monster. Yet another inspiration for Alien. Basil Rathbone is mainly seen standing around mission control barking orders via radio. Dennis Hopper and Curtis Harrington had collaborated previously on the atmospheric Night Tide (1963). AKA: Queen of Blood.

1966 81m/C John Saxon, Basil Rathbone, Judi Meredith, Dennis Hopper, Florence Marly, Forrest J. Ackerman; D: Curtis Harrington. VHS SNC, NOS, MRV
