Making Contact Movie Review

Oddball German production is one long tribute/ripoff of the imagery of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. Joey (pic's original title), a sci-fi obsessed small boy with a pet R2D2 robot, is assailed by poltergeists – something to do with his deceased father and a malevolent ventriloquist's dummy. Can his souvenir Jedi window curtains save him? How about his E.T. drinking glass? Harmless but annoying unoriginal, this celluloid fan letter is a telling footnote in the career of Roland Emmerich, who later indeed reached Hollywood and helmed genre blockbusters like StarGate and Independence Day.
