Krull Movie Review

Though set on the distant world of Krull, filled with fantasy creatures of myth and magic, there's a labored sense of familiarity all over this costly dud, in which a Kong-sized invader called the Beast lands his starship/fortress in a peaceful kingdom and sends hordes of insectoid stormtroopers to ravage the land. Handsome prince embarks on a quest to find the Glaive (a sort of buzzsaw-boomerang weapon) and joins with Merrie Men types to save his Beastnapped bride. Actors unfortunately treat this material like Shakespeare; in truth, it's yet another pompous ‘80s try at the Ultimate Fairy Tale, never mind that one had already been done in 1977 – Star Wars. Special effects by Derek Meddings (Batman).
