It Came from Beneath the Sea Movie Review

A giant octopus arises from the depths of the sea to scour San Francisco for human food. Ray Harryhausen effects are special, but more suspense is generated by the unusual soap-opera triangle among the three leads than by any plans to deal with the menacing behemoth. Faced with the problem of having an aquatic beast ravaging a city, Harryhausen inventively designed scenes in which its tentacles invade the city streets like serpents, and the sight of the octopus breaking apart the Golden Gate bridge is especially inspired. All this with only five tentacles, which is all the budget would allow. Kenneth Tobey's affable charm was used to better effect battling The Thing from Another World, but beautiful Faith Domergue fared less well in This Island Earth.
