Godzilla Vs. the Cosmic Monster Movie Review

Godzilla appears once again to ravage the Japanese countryside. Nothing new about that – until he beats up on his ol’ pal Angilas. Then, a second Godzilla shows up to battle the first! The first monster's skin is torn away to reveal a robot version of Godzilla, which is under the control of evil apes from the black hole nebula (swiping an idea from the then-popular Planet of the Apes series). The apes don't seem like much of a threat – instead of just marching in to take over, they needed to enlist an Earth scientist to build Mechagodzilla. Why do they disguise the robot as Godzilla? Why do they disguise themselves as humans? Since Mechagodzilla is such a match for Godzilla, why not build two robots just to be sure? Stop asking intelligent questions and just enjoy the fireworks, as the giant monsters wage war across a crumbling cityscape. Originally released by AIP as Godzilla Vs. the Bionic Monster in an attempt to cash in on The Six Million Dollar Man television series, the prints and ad campaign had to be quickly altered when a lawsuit was threatened. Not to be confused with the much superior Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla (1993), which has yet to be released in the U.S. AKA: Godzilla Vs. the Bionic Monster; Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla; Gojira Tai Meka-Gojira.
