The Beast of Yucca Flats Movie Review

Expecting a giant radioactive dinosaur? Try a radioactive Tor Johnson! In this unbelievably cheap, quasi-nuclear protest film, Tor plays a Russian scientist who's chased by communist agents into a nuclear testing area and is caught in an atomic blast. As a result, he turns into a club-wielding caveman – very like all the “monsters” Tor played in other movies. Droning voice-over narration was used instead of dialogue to keep costs down. Anyone who thinks Tor's roles in Plan 9 from Outer Space and Bride of the Monster were masterpieces of bad acting needs to check this dog out. Fellow Ed Wood crony Conrad Brooks shows up as a Federal agent. Director/writer/actor Coleman Francis was in lots of B westerns in the ‘40s and ‘50s. He later made The Skydivers and Red Zone Cuba, before ending up doing bit parts in movies for Russ Meyer and Ray Dennis Steckler.
