The Trip to Bountiful Movie Review

Unhappy living with her whipped son (John Heard) and nagging daughter-in-law (Carlin Glynn), an elderly woman (Geraldine Page) makes the trip to Bountiful, Texas, which no longer exists except in her happy memories. Her traveling companion is Rebecca DeMornay, who responds to her in an empathetic way that her family does not. The much-honored Geraldine Page (1924–87) won her only Oscar for her beautiful performance here. When first telecast in 1953, Lillian Gish, Eva Marie Saint, John Beal, and Eileen Heckart had the roles later played by Page, DeMornay, Heard, and Glynn. Based on the play by Horton Foote.
