Kirk, Spock and McCoy investigate an asteroid which is on a collision course with a planet. They find the tiny world, Yonada, inhabited by space colonists who are unaware of their precarious existence. McCoy, who is dying from a rare disease, falls in love with the High Priestess of Yonada and decides to marry her so they can share his final months together.
