Singer Lady Lou (West) fronts an 1890s Bowery saloon for her shady boss, Gus Jordan (Beery Sr.) Gus gives her diamonds but when she gets an eyeful of young Salvation Army Capt. Cummings (Grant), Lou starts to think there's other things in life worth having. West imparts the screen version of her Broadway hit "Diamond Lil" with her usual share of double entendres and racy comments.
