Ophuls' final masterpiece (and his only film in color) recounts the life and sins of the famous courtesan, mistress of Franz Liszt and the King of Bavaria. Ignored upon release, but hailed later by the French as a cinematic landmark. Adapted from an unpublished novel by Cecil Saint-Laurent. French with subtitles. The original widescreen release clocked in at 140 minutes.
