Maedchen in Uniform Movie Review 1931

A scandalous early German talkie about a rebellious schoolgirl who falls in love with a female teacher and attempts suicide when the teacher is punished for the relationship. A controversial criticism of lesbianism and militarism that impelled the Nazis, rising to power two years later, to exile its director. It was also banned in the United States. In German with English subtitles; edited versions are also in circulation. Remade in 1965.
