Rollie Tyler (Brown) is a New York-based special effects expert who is contracted by government agent Lipton (DeYoung) to fake an assassination in order to protect mob informer DeFranco (Orbach). After completing the assignment, Rollie learns that he's become involved in a real crime and is forced to reach into his bag of F/X tricks to survive, aided by tough cop Leo McCarthy (Dennehy), who's trying to figure out just what's going on. Twists and turns abound in this fast-paced story that was the sleeper hit of the year. Followed by a sequel.
