Cast reads like a Who's Who in Hollywood in this lavishly costumed dramatization of the love affair between Queen Elizabeth I (Davis) and Robert Devereaux (Flynn), the second Earl of Essex. Forced to choose between her Kingdom and her lover, Davis' monarch is the epitome of a regal women. Fabray made her first film appearance as an adult in this adaptation of Maxwell Anderson's 1930 play "Elizabeth the Queen."
