While struggling through her adolescence, 12-year-old tomboy Frankie (played by 26-year-old Harris) is growing up in 1945 Georgia and seeking solace from her family's cook, Berenice (Waters) and her cousin, John Henry (de Wilde). Based on Carson McCullers's play, this story of family, belonging, and growth is well acted and touching.
