Highly stylized, sometimes leaden black comedy about Vharley Partana (Nicholson), an aging and none-to-bright hit man from a New York mob family who breaks with family loyalties when he falls for Irene Walker (Turner), an upwardly mobile tax consultant who's also a hired killer. Skirting caricature in every frame, Nicholson is excellent in his portrayal of the thick-skulled mobster, as are Angelica Huston as the hot-to-trot Mafia daughter Maerose and Hickey as Don Prizzi. Adapted by Condon and Roach from Condon's novel.
