New York architect Phillip (Cassavettes), fed up with city living, chucks it all and brings his daughter Miranda (Ringwald in her screen debut), and singer Aretha (Sarandon) to live with him on a barren Greek island where they encounter a hermit named Kalibanos (Julia). Then, thanks to a shipwreck, all the other people in Phillip's life, including his unfaithful wife Antonia (Rowland), show up to complicate his midlife crisis. Loosley based on the Shakespeare play of the same name. Well-written, thoughtfully acted, and beautifully filmed.
