Sadistic boarding school master Michel (Meurisse) has a wealthy, neurotic wife, Christina (Clouzet, the director's wife), and a cold-blooded mistress, Nicole (Signoret), who conspire to poison and then drown him in the school's swimming pool. But after the plot is carried out, Christina becomes convinced that Michel is still alive. Plot twists and double-crosses abound. Based on the novel "Celle Qui N'Etait Pas" by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. French with subtitles. Remade for TV in 1974 as "Reflections of Murder."
