Innocent Viridiana (Pinal), with strong ideas about goodness, visits her worldly uncle, Don Jaime's (Rey), home before she takes her vows as a nun. He has developed a sick obsession for her, but after drugging Viridiana, Don Jaimefinds he cannot violate her purity. He tells her, however, she is no longer chaste so she will not join the church. After her uncle's suicide, Viridiana learns she and his illegitimate son Jorge (Rabal) have inherited her uncle's rundown estate. Viridiana opens the house to all sorts of beggars, who take shameless advantage, while Jorge works slowly to restore the estate and improve the lives of those around him. Considered to be one of Bunuel's masterpieces and a bitter allegory of Spanish idealism versus pragmatism and the state of the world. Spanish with subtitles.
