Different Drummer: Elvin Jones Movie Review 1979

A profile of jazz drummer Elvin Jones, undisputed as the major influence in contemporary drumming. This program features his composition "Three Card Molly," and Jones discusses how it was composed and performs the piece with his quartet in a special recording session. The program also includes a look at his family, a discussion of his roots in black church music, and the beginnings of his career in postwar Detroit. Jones recalls his experiences working with Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, and Bud Powell, and is seen playing with John Coltrane.
