The beginnings of music are examined, from the primeval rhythms of Africa to the first great civilizations of China, Japan, Sumeria, and Greece. Prehistoric instruments are looked at, and a modern "soundscape" (a giant mobile that emits a cacophony of sounds) is demonstrated by its creator, Canadian composer Murray Schafer. Part of the "Music of Man" series.
