In WWI, a Scottish soldier finds a battle-torn French town evacuated of all occupants except a colorful collection of escaped lunatics from a nearby asylum. The lunatics want to make him their king, which is not a bad alternative to the insanity of war. Bujold is cute as ballerina wanna-be; look for Serrault ("La Cage aux Folles") as, not surprisingly, a effeminate would-be hairdresser. Light-hearted comedy with a serious message; definitely worthwhile.
