Short Films of D.W. Griffith, Vol. 1 Movie Review 1912

Three early shorts by the great silent-film director. "The Battle" is a lavish Civil War drama. "The Female of the Species" stars Pickford and McDowell as pioneers struggling to survive hardship and each other's company in the desert. "The New York Hat" is a comedy (written by Anita Loos, aged 14!) starring Pickford as a girl who endures the malice of her peers when she is given a nice hat. Landmark early films from a master director.
