Spoiled rich girl Irene Bullock (Lombard) picks up someone she assumes is a bum (Powell) as part of a scavenger hunt and decides to keep him on as her family's butler. In the process, Godfrey teaches her about life, money, and happiness--and that everything is not as it seems. Top-notch screwball comedy defines the genre. Lombard is a stunner alongside the equally charming Powell. Watch for Jane Wyman as an extra in the party scene. From the novel by Eric Hatch. Remade in 1957 with June Allyson and David Niven.
