Paul Kersey (Bronson) is a middle-aged businessman who turns vigilante after his wife and daughter are raped and left for dead by a gang of hoodlums (one is Goldblum in his film debut). He stalks the streets of New York seeking revenge on other muggers, pimps, and crooks, making the neighborhood safer for those less macho. Brosnan's his usual stoic self and the violence could be deemed excessive--certainly Brian Garfield, whose novel the film is based on, thought so.
