After Tasha Yar's death, Worf takes over as security chief and La Forge is promoted to chief engineer; Dr. Crusher takes a sabbatical and is replaced by Dr. Pulaski (Diana Muldaur), but Wesley remains and becomes an apprentice helmsman. Data tries to become more human; we meet Troi's meddlesome mother Lwaxana (Majel Barrett); philosophical bartender Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) comes aboard; and Q (John DeLancie) instigates Enterprise's first encounter with the Borg. 22 episodes.
