Mild eco-tale based on Carl Hiaasen's young-adult novel. Young teen Roy (Lerman) is the new kid at his Coconut Cove, Florida, school. After tangling with a bully, Roy is grateful to befriend tomboy Beatrice (Larson) and runaway Mullet Fingers (Linley). Mullet spends his time sabotaging a construction site that is the habitat of the endangered burrowing owl (which is small and cute while the corporation destroying it is big and greedy). Naturally, Roy decides to help out (the owls of course).
