Leisurely-paced adaptation of Keillor's radio show begins at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul on a Saturday night. Only this night is the program's last broadcast because the radio station has been sold. Emcee Keillor (more or less playing himself) doesn't want to spoil things by making a fuss so the show goes on with the singing Johnson sisters--ditsy Yolanda (Streep) and caustic Rhonda (Tomlin)--and risque cowboy duo Lefty (Reilly) and Dusty (Harrelson), while backstage P.I. Guy Noir (Kline) wonders about the mysterious blonde in white (Madsen). Ensemble master Altman just lets his 39th feature meander gently along.
