Ernest, cliched comedy follows 22-year-old Sarabeth Cohen (Sokoloff) as she tries to escape what she sees as her smothering Brooklyn Jewish family for the life of a rebellious artist in Manhattan. She even gets a sweet goy boyfriend, Simon (McElhenney), but familial problems interfere while Sarabeth decides where her life should truly be going.
