Yet another inspirational, fact-based sports drama. In 1966, the Miners, an under-funded basketball team at small Texas Western, became legends by defeating the sport's Goliaths--the all-white University of Kentucky Wildcats--in the NCAA championship. Their coach, Don Haskins (Lucas), made history when he recruited seven black players and had five of them in his starting lineup. Naturally, there are problems leading up to their triumph, which are dealt with efficiently by first-time director Gartner. End credits showcase Haskins and several of the actual players reflecting on the game.
