A Hollywood director comes to Paris to film a Yiddish version of Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice," setting the thespian world all atwitter. After being cast as Shylock, Maurice rushes home to tell his ailing wife of his big break. When the part ends up going to a more famous American actor, Maurice plays the role of his life in order to prolong his wife's happiness as her condition grows worse. In French with unfortunately inadequate subtitles.
