Set amid the dusty and desolate bleakness of rural Kazakhstan, film follows 15 year old Mustafa (Eralibeva), who has been given the nickname Schizo because of an apparent mental disorder. His mother's boyfriend, who he idolized, is a small time gangster whose racket is setting up illegal bare-fisted boxing matches. With little else to do in his dead-end town, Mustafa gets involved by recruiting men looking for a quick buck in the ring. When one combatant dies after an especially brutal fight, Mustafa is obliged to fulfill the man's dying wish to deliver his winnings to his girlfriend. This leads to an unlikely romantic involvement, which has the uneasy feel of Mustafa stepping into another man's shoes.
