Georges Laurent (Auteuil) and his wife Anne (Binoche) are upper middle class professionals living a comfortable life with their young son in Paris when suddenly a disturbing surveillance video tape of their own home is left at their front door, followed by another and another. This invasion plunges Georges into a world of repressed memories and disquieting dreams as he tries to make sense of these events as well as his past. On the surface a whodunit mystery not unlike any other from the post modern era. However, this is in post-9/11 modern-age France, and the story unfolds as a metaphor for personal and societal responsibility to those previously held under thumb.
