Set in Venice and loosely based on the legendary life of the 18th century womanizer. Casanova (Ledger) is running from the Roman Inquisitor Pucci (Irons) who wants to try him for heresy, which sets up an excuse for drama and disguise resulting in an unlikely clandestine relationship with Francesca (Miller), who may be Venice's first feminist writer. Don't look for a naughty glimpse of the legendary exploits of Casanova. Here he is forced posthumously to figure out that a woman's true value is her intellect...um...et tu, Casanova? If you love romantic costume comedies set in Venice and you're house-bound for the weekend, you could do worse.
