In a panic, Nancy (Brooks) kills her abusive stepfather. She disguises herself as a boy and, with fellow runaway Jim (Arlen) serving as her protector, decides to hop a train to Canada. They wind up spending the night in a hobo camp, looked after by Oklahoma Red (Beery) who aids in their escape at great cost to himself.
