Outcast journalist Michael Trevor (Powell) lives in Paris and blackmails wealthy Americans, aided by girlfriend Irene (Gibson). He wants to go straight when he falls for debutante Mary Kendall (Lombard) but tables are turned when Irene threatens to expose Michael's schemes. Pre-Production Code flick says crime may not pay but you still can get away.
