Greek tragedy? Part one of Theo Angelopoulos' historical trilogy starts with a family fleeing Russia's Bolshevik Revolution in Russia and landing in Greece. Eleni (Aidini) and Alexis (Poursadinis) are stepsiblings who fall in love and struggle to forge and remain their romantic relationship, though the fates are continually against them. Eleni bears twins she is forced to give up for adoption. Story weaves through time as the sons grow and tragedy after tragedy besets all involved.
