Empire Falls Movie Review 2005

Passive Miles Roby (Harris), manager of the Empire Grill, has been unable to sever ties with either his economically depressed Maine mill town or his demanding family, including ne'er-do-well father Max (Newman), ex-wife Janice (Hunt), teen daughter Tick (Panabaker), and brother David (Quinn). Also in the picture is the town's manipulative matriarch (Woodward) and secrets involving Miles' dead mother (Wright Penn) and another man (Hoffman). HBO miniseries based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Richard Russo is sometimes slow going but the cast is worth the effort.
