Timothy Treadwell spent 13 summers, beginning in 1990, in the Alaskan wilderness living among grizzly bears until 2003, when he and his girlfriend were killed in a bear attack. Director Herzog is an ideal choice to tell the story of one self-absorbed man's obsession (tinged with madness) as the animals' self-appointed guardian and protector. Herzog includes amateur naturalist Treadwell's video footage as well as interviews and his own narration.
