Garcia is miscast as debauched Italian Jewish artist Amedeo Modgliani, who's living it up in Paris, circa 1919, and having a tragic love affair with his beautiful Catholic mistress, Jeanne (Zylberstein), who leaves her family for him. Writer/director Davis invents a feud between Modigliani and a glowering Picasso (Djalili) to further liven up the action. It doesn't work and neither does the film, which is almost a melodramatic parody of screen bios about the art world.
