Teenaged Mona (Press) lives with her ex-con brother, Phil (Considine), over the closed family pub in a dull Yorkshire village. Phil has become a born-again Christian, much to Mona's confusion, and she turns for companionship to wealthy Tamsin (Blunt), who's summering at the family mansion. They soon indulge in a hothouse romance that's part crush, part loneliness, and part boredom. The young women have certain secrets and Tamsin has a streak of cruelty. A dangerous and unsettling atmosphere prevails, along with satisfying performances. Based on the novel by Helen Cross.
