Herzog's documentary (which he also narrates) begins with a brief history of flight and then moves on to the eccentricities of British aeronautical engineer Graham Dorrington, who designs a two-person airship meant to be used for scientific research in the Amazon rain forest. Herzog records their expedition to Guyana as they try to get Dorrington's aircraft to fly. Dorrington's crew is supported by local Guyanese diamond miners, including Mark Anthony Yhap, whose christening of the airship gives the film its title.
