Grant stars as a gleeful villain named Bonaparte Benkins, who invades the lives of young cousins Em (Weidemann) and Lydall (Kropinski). It's 1870, and the two orphaned girls are stuck on the remote African farm of their strict Aunt Sannie (Van der Laag), whom drifter Bonaparte proceeds to charm into letting him stay. The children are plucky and the adults are generally foolish but the experience is only mildly entertaining. Based on the 1883 children's book by South African Olive Schreiner.
