Paul Schrader's dark and intensely serious horror movie about demon-possession gone wrong. Released less because of the interest in another "Exorcist" spin-off, but more in hopes of cashing in on the curiosity to see such an unusual studio maneuver. This "prequel" disappointed the Morgan Creek execs, who then decided to re-shoot the entire movie with a new director and a few new actors. That movie became "Exorcist: The Beginning." With nothing to lose, the studio plunked in some CGI and released their original investment under this slightly different title. It's better than their reshoot, and makes for a fascinating experiment when paired up scene-for-scene with "The Beginning."
