In 2019, folks at the sterile, white-uniform-only, underground community believe that they've been spared from a cataclysmic disaster and await a lottery pick that's supposedly a ticket to "The Island," the last uncontaminated place on the planet. Among the placid group is troublemaker Lincoln Six Echo (McGregor), who discovers they're clones created by evil scientist Merrick (Bean) to serve as donors for their human counterparts. Lincoln flees with fellow resident Jordan Two Delta (Johansson) but Merrick's henchman Laurent (Hounsou) isn't far behind. Initially intriguing plot becomes a typical Bay blow'em up, kill'em all action fest. Interesting (at least to the original's producer) similarity to "Parts: The Clonus Horror" adds another dimension to all the cloning around, and became fodder for some controversy. Partially filmed in Detroit.
