Nobody Knows Movie Review 2004

Inspired by a true story that happened in 1988, Koreeda's overly-long drama follows the lives of four abandoned children. Irresponsible Keiko (You) smuggles her brood into a Tokyo apartment, refusing to let them attend school and giving them bizarre rules to follow so they won't be discovered. 12-year-old Akira (Yuya) is the de facto head of the family, especially when mom leaves a little cash and takes off with her latest boyfriend. Akira soon realizes she isn't returning and struggles to keep the family together under increasingly dire circumstances. Japanese with subtitles.
