Best of Youth Movie Review 2003

Sprawling modern-times epic spanning 40 years of Italy's tumultuous history through the eyes of two brothers. At close to six hours the film encapsulates the entire relationship between Nicola (Lo Cascio), an optimistic med student, wooing women worldwide before settling into a successful career as a psychiatrist, and his brother Matteo (Boni), a world-weary, brooding idealist who eventually joins the Italian police in hopes of righting the wrongs of an unfair society. History is seen with human eyes and expressed in striking passion, somehow never overindulging itself. Originally an Italian television miniseries, went on to win over the crowds and critics at Cannes.
