Based on a true story of a coach who benched his entire team until their grades improved. Coach Carter (Jackson) is a self-made sporting goods businessman who decides to take a basketball coaching job at his alma mater Richmond High. Carter is a strict disciplinarian and makes it clear that the boys must follow a certain set of rules to play for him, and each student is required to sign a contract to maintain a grade point average of 2.3. Despite the familiar plot of inspirational teacher making a difference, the movie rises above due to a good supporting cast and a great performance by Jackson, making excellent use of his commanding screen presence.
